Author: These days there are a lot of different ways to watch, or purchase movies. In this article we will discuss briefly all he options before you when you want to watch a movie. We are amazed at the number of different ways you can gat a movie in the world today.
Of course there is the old original method, go to the movies. Movie attendance at the theaters is in decline, but still a huge industry. The fact that everyone has a nice TV and DVD system, less people go to the movies.
For years now, video stores like blockbuster started to become the main way people would get their movie fixes. It seem like there is a video store near every neighborhood. This started to get people to watch at home, and not go as much to the theaters.
When cable TV came onto the scene, it wasn’t long before everyone was getting a movie fix by watching a movie channel like HBO. Here you paid a monthly fee to watch everything offered on a movie channel. The other limitation here is you have only one movie choice at a time.
The next step on cable was movies on demand. With this system you can pick from a list of available movies, and can start the movie when you want, or at least they are showing very often all day. You pay one movie at a time with this set up.
The next twist to this was getting a Tivo system with your cable hookup. This allows you to record shows, and watch them at your convenience. This just added another great option to movie watching.
The next shift in this industry came with the Netflix model. Netflix is a company that works like a video store. Only with Netflix everything is done from the internet. They take your order, and mail you the movie.
This model has taken the classic video store concept and increased the convenience, and the value. You have a monthly subscription that allows you to rent a certain number of movies at a time. All you do is mail the movie back when you have finished watching it, and wait for your next movie.
Netflix, and other companies, also offer another service called streaming video. You will have a membership, and will select movies to watch as they stream. Netflix for example offers over 12,000 selections that you can watch at anytime with this method.
The final way to watch movies on our list is movie downloads. You can find sites on the internet that you get the movies downloaded onto your computer. You will usually need to have a membership, or buy software that is necessary for the downloading.
When you think about it, it is pretty amazing all the different ways we access movies in these days, From the old theater presentation, that somehow lives on, to streaming and downloadable movies directly off the internet. I can not imagine what will we see in the next evolution.
